How can BEing BOLD change your life?

What happens when we show up boldly?

(read to the end for the answer)

BE BOLD!

You may remember, or if you follow me on LinkedIn (click the link if you want to follow me) you’ll know these were my guiding words at the beginning of 2024. These words have now evolved into a framework for practising next level Self-leadership for Leaders, Solopreneurs and just an approach to life..

Recently I had the pleasure and privilege of delivering my B.E.-B.O.L.D Leadership workshop for the Aleto Foundation and Aston Martin F1 Team intern programme.

These Future leaders were impressive;

They were vulnerable and authentic.

Able to take real-time feedback with grace and openness.

Prepared to respectfully challenge when they had a different perspective.

Reflect and self analyse, without being self critical.

Listen and give constructive and considered feedback to each other.

It was a privilege to invest time to be with these future leaders.

What stops us from being bold?

"Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than outright exposure. The fearful are caught as often as the bold."

Helen Keller

Being bold comes with risk and risk is dangerous! This is enough to stop most people, but in reality if you're reading this email it's more likely just stepping out of your comfort zone than being really dangerous.

Examples of boldly stretching your comfort zone;  Starting your own business, going for that senior leadership role (you don't feel qualified for), changing country for a job role, investing in a business, challenging authoritative injustice and discrimination.

Recognition that most people settle for a mediocre life by embracing the status quo (which is fine for anyone who is happy with that life). But for some of us we know we have more to offer life and can have a positive impact on a larger scale.

The problem arises through socialisation; the phenomenon by which we fit into the status quo majority for cohesion and acceptance (this is my technical term). When we step out of the social constructs to explore what is right for us we can be rejected and ostracised and this can created psychological danger.

Debbie, the lady who coordinated the training explained to me that in Ireland being "bold" is to be naughty! And this is where the issue lies; when people are bold they tend to get criticised;

"Who do you think you are?"

"Why not stay in your lane?"

"What makes you think you're so special?"

What does it actually mean to B.E.-B.O.L.D:

"Memorable people do memorable things. Followers are seldom remembered. The herd mentality is the killer of innovation. When appropriate, be bold in your undertakings."

Gad Saad

So why would we put ourselves in that position of exposure and alienation?I think there will be different reasons for everyone but I think the quote from Gad Saad kinda sums it up.

  1. Innovation - When we see things that are not right then the status quo needs to be disrupted so innovation can take place.

  2. Legacy - To make a mark on the world or in the lives of others that we may be remembered dearly.

The B.E.-B.O.L.D Framework:

  • Believe in Your Potential: The foundation of confidence is believing in yourself., especially when others don't believe in you. Recognise your strengths and achievements.

  • Embrace Challenges: Embrace challenges not as setbacks but as opportunities for growth. A growth mindset empowers solopreneurs to confront obstacles with resilience, turning each setback into a stepping stone for future success.

  • Be Optimistic: Optimism empowers you to embrace challenges with confidence, believing in the potential for positive outcomes, even in the face of uncertainty or adversity.

  • Lifelong Learning: Continuous learning is essential for personal and professional growth.Learning from failures can significantly contribute to building resilience while developing a growth Mindset.

  • Dare to dream big: Dreaming big and pursuit of materialising your aspirations forces you out of our comfort zone. Chunking the dream into stages and goals enables us to assess and mitigate risks and make creating the dream manageable.

What if you dare to dream big and bet on yourself?

What if you made some bold decisions and took actions on them?

How would it feel to create a legacy beyond your wildest dreams?

To B.E.-B.O.L.D isn't simply an acronym for workshops it's a rally cry to bring about the changes in organisations, society and humanity that the world needs..

So what happens when you show up Boldly?

The truth is only you can tell that story should you choose to go on that adventure. If you do choose to, what you discover about yourself and what you are capable of may be amazing!

"Why, I'd like nothing better than to achieve some bold adventure, worthy of our trip."

Aristophanes
